Executive director's update

In May, your copyright collective was operating at full speed and we’re pleased to give you an update before the newsletter takes a break for the summer.

I’d like to start by announcing that I’ll be leaving Copibec, which means this is my last Executive Director’s update. After 17 years with Copibec, including six as Executive Director, I’m taking on new challenges. Defending the rights of authors and publishers will always be important to me.

Payment for freelancers

If you’re a freelance writer, it’s time to update your file so you can take advantage of the lump sum (repertoire) payment.

Any of your content that was published in 2018 and 2019 in Quebec periodicals (newspapers and magazines) may be eligible for a royalty payment. To register for the payment, update your file by logging into your online account. Don’t delay, because the deadline for registering in June 11, 2021.

New recruits

We recently welcomed Benoit Stefanini to our team as an IT agent. His main role will be IT user support. Welcome to Copibec, Benoit!

The Rightsholder Services team also has a new member: Patricia Whitford. Patricia worked for Copibec for many years and has rejoined the team as an assistant. She’ll be responsible for supporting the Rightsholder Services team. We’re pleased to welcome her back among us!

Departure

It’s now our turn to say au revoir to Eve St-Aubin, Communications Officer, who’s leaving us after nearly 5 years with Copibec. We’d like to thank her warmly for her work over those years. Her dynamic approach will be missed! New professional challenges await her. Good luck with your next endeavour, Eve!

In closing, please note our newsletter won’t be published this summer. We’ll be back in September after the summer vacations have ended.

Nevertheless, life goes on in the arts and culture sector so you won’t want to miss anything. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to stay up to date on the latest news about what’s going on with your copyright collective. Our team is also available to answer your questions.

Have a great summer, everyone! It’s been a pleasure and a privilege to reach out to you through this newsletter.
