Visual arts payment: Update your account now

Visual arts payment: Update your account now

Registration season is now officially open for the visual artists’ lump-sum (repertoire) payment and reserve! The deadline for registering your works is March 15, 2019.

Whether you’re a painter, sculptor, illustrator, photographer or artisan, you could be paid royalties for your works included in paper-format publications in Quebec.

If at least one of your works appeared in an eligible publication released between 2015 and 2017, you’re eligible for the payment. The following Quebec paper-format publications qualify:

- Newspapers
- Magazines
- Books
- Exhibition catalogues

Important: If you’re the rightsholder for any books, please note they’re not eligible because they could qualify for a different payment.

How to update your account

Go to the Register to a visual arts lump sum payment section of your online account and click Add an entry to register any new publications.

What if you haven’t already opened an account? It's free to sign up and it takes just a few steps.

Don’t delay!

Lump-sum payments aren’t retroactive. Once the deadline has passed, the available amounts will be divided among the eligible individuals. That means you can’t claim amounts from previous payments. It’s crucial to enter your new publications before the deadline.

FAQ

I already have an online account but I don’t remember my password. How can I log in?

No problem! Enter your email address, click Forgot your password? and we’ll send you an email so you can reset your password.

I tried to sign up online but my social insurance number already exists in the system. What should I do?

If you’ve already been paid royalties by Copibec, it’s normal for your SIN to already be in the system. To access your existing account, please email us at [email protected].

I don’t have any new publications to add. Do I have to re-register the publications that are already in my account?

No, the system will automatically take into consideration the publications already registered in your account if they qualify for the payment. As long as your account information – including your address – is up to date, you don’t have to do anything else except wait for your cheque!

I need to add works from a periodical that’s already registered in my account. Do I have to register the document again?

No, you don’t have to re-register the publication. You can simply add the year and the number of works appearing for that period. To do so, click the pencil icon (to the left of the publication), then click Add year (in this document) and save. Don’t forget to check that the quantities and years have been recorded correctly.

Can I get a head start by registering my 2018 publications?

The system won’t let you add publications from years later than the period covered by the payment. Please keep track of them for the next payment.
