Every two years, Copibec makes a lump sum (repertoire) payment to freelance writers. The next payment will be distributed this spring. The content you created for cultural, news and science periodicals and newspapers in Quebec could earn royalties for you.
But you have to make sure all your works are registered by June 17, 2019.
This year, the payment will cover texts published in 2016 and 2017. To qualify, you need to have published at least 8 articles. Other criteria may apply. Freelance writers registered with Copibec will receive all the necessary information by regular mail. If you haven’t received anything, be sure to contact us.
Please note that websites and blog posts are not eligible.
How to register
Don’t wait! You can add your latest articles any time by logging into your online account. Go to the My publications section and click Add a contributor participation. You have to enter the publication’s name and the number of texts you published in each year. That’s all there is to it!
If you want to add a text for a publication already registered in your account, click the pencil icon (to the left of the publication) and select Add year (in this document).
Lump-sum payments aren’t retroactive. Once the deadline has passed, the available amounts will be divided among the eligible individuals. That means you can’t claim amounts from previous payments. It’s essential to be aware of the deadlines and register your new publications before the cut-off date.
If your account is already up to date, you don’t have to do anything else to receive your payment.

I already have an online account but I don’t remember my password. How can I log in?
No problem! Enter your email address, click Forgot your password? and we’ll send you an email so you can reset your password.
I tried to sign up online but my social insurance number already exists in the system. What should I do?
If you’ve already been paid royalties by Copibec, it’s normal for your SIN to already be in the system. To access your existing account, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I don’t see the publication I’m looking for in the Copibec repertoire. What should I do?
Click Add document and enter the relevant information. Our team will do the necessary checking.
Important: Enter the publication’s name, not the title of the article. The only information we need is the number of texts per publication for each eligible year.
I can’t find the publication’s ISSN. Can I still register my content?
If you don’t know the ISSN, you can use the publication’s name to do a search in our repertoire.
Can I register all my recently published texts even if they’re not eligible for this year’s payment?
Yes, you can update your account at any time.
