Back to school: 4 steps to make the new school year easier

Back to school: 4 steps to make the new school year easier

Did you hear the bell ? Everyone’s back in school. Ready or not, it’s time to clean the whiteboards and get out your new lesson plans !

If you work in an educational institution at the elementary or high school level, you may have been surprised to find out your school was among the ones selected to take part in Copibec's data collection process.

If you work in a CEGEP or university, you probably already know about reporting your content use. Whether or not you’re new to data collection, we’ve come up with some tips that we think can help you with this process.

So, let’s get right to the 4 steps that will make your new school year easier.

1. Read our mini FAQ

Our mini FAQ is new this year and gives you answers to the most frequently asked questions. Keep in mind that the questions come mainly from institutions at the elementary and secondary levels. What if your question isn’t answered there ? Please email us at [email protected].

2. Check out the available tools

Copibec provides a variety of tools to help you report your content use, starting with our website. Whether you teach in an institution at the elementary, high school, college or university level, there’s a specific section for you in our Educator Space. For example, you can view the exclusions list, check what’s allowed under your Copibec agreement or licence, plus much more.

If you teach at the elementary or high school level, the Data Collection section of our Educator Space contains a wide range of useful information. And don’t forget the mini FAQ from step 1.

3. Create your user account

Now that you’ve taken a look at the available tools, it’s time to crunch some numbers ! Log into Savia, our online copyright licensing and rights management system. If you don’t already have an account, follow the steps to create one. The Savia system is what you’ll be using to report the content you reproduce throughout the school year.

Are you the administrator for your school’s account ? Email us at [email protected] and we’ll assign you the necessary permissions.

4. Report your content before the deadline

As the reporting deadlines get near, things can get quite hectic at Copibec. The volume of calls and emails increases considerably, which means it may take longer to respond to your questions. Avoid delays by reporting your content as soon as you use it rather than waiting until the last minute.

To check the reporting deadlines:

- For elementary and high schools
- For CEGEPs and universities

If you have any other questions about data collection, reporting or your Copibec agreement or licence, please email us at [email protected].

Good luck with the new school year !
