Copibec announces departure of Executive Director

Montreal, May 20, 2021 – Copibec announced today that Frédérique Couette will be leaving her position as Executive Director effective June 1.

Ms. Couette worked for the copyright collective for close to 17 years, first as Legal Counsel and then as Executive Director starting in 2015.

Speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors as Board Chair, Gilles Herman said that “Frédérique demonstrated her great commitment to Copibec and, above all, towards the copyright owners whose interests she was devoted to defending. I’d like to thank her for playing a role in the many battles fought in recent years, especially after the Copyright Act’s reform had such a debilitating impact on economic conditions for our creators.”

Frédérique Couette noted that “it’s been a pleasure for me to work for Copibec all these years. I’m looking forward to new challenges but I’ll continue to be interested in closely monitoring what’s happening with the copyright collective. Defending the rights of copyright owners will always be important to me.”

Copibec’s Executive Office, in cooperation with the teams in place, will ensure ongoing operations until the recruitment process is completed. Copibec will continue its mission: applying a collective management approach to ensure that the rights of authors and visual artists as well as their publishers are respected when their text- and image-based content is used.
