In the next few days, more than 10,000 authors and 800 publishers will receive the Book Payment. More than $2 million will be paid to the book industry through this payment. Objective: increasing the revenues of copyright holders.

What is the Book Payment?

Every day, thousands of organizations in Québec photocopy, digitize and share texts from books. For example: municipalities, ministries and private companies sharing contents or daily press reviews, or teachers reproducing books and school materials for their students.

Authors and publishers have copyrights on their content for which they must be compensated.

Since it is impossible to track every book use made in Québec, Copibec compensates by paying copyright holders for books published in Québec between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2019. To find out which books are eligible, see the eligibility criteria.
