Important projects for 2022

Important projects for 2022

At the beginning of this new year, the Copibec team is back in action to answer your requests and to ensure that written and visual artworks are used in compliance with the Copyright Act

In 2022, the revision of the law will continue to be our main focus. It has been 10 years since the new version of the Act was introduced and almost 5 years since the revision was undertaken.

We endorse the recommendations of The Coalition for the Diversity of Cultural Expressions and will remind elected officials of the conclusions of our brief presented to the Canadian Heritage Committee.

In May 2021, I asked for the support of the members of our organization on the direction of the upcoming negotiations with the universities and CEGEPs: the royalties collected cannot be further reduced and must, on the contrary, be minimally indexed to the CPI.

Our firm approach has allowed us to quickly reach an agreement with Quebec universities, while CEGEPs are next in line to renew their licenses.

In terms of digital developments, DONA offers documents that are accessible to students with perceptual disabilities and we intend to improve this service in terms of both functionality and available content.

The other major project is the essential modernization of the management information systems to improve our operations and ensure the security of the information we collect. The aim is to simplify the work of those involved, whether in terms of declarations, managing the database or collecting royalties.

As you can see, the Board of Directors has a lot of work to do and it is with renewed motivation that we will begin strategic planning for the next three years as early as January.

Finally, a big thank you to the members of the crew united by a new collective agreement and guided by our captain, Christian Laforce.

Together we are moving forward.
