Copibec agrees with the point made by Bloc Québécois MP Sébastien Lemire who, during the February 13 meeting of the Standing Committee on Industry and Technology, reminded Minister François-Philippe Champagne about the urgency of adopting legislation to protect copyright in Quebec and across Canada.

Again this year, we launched a campaign to track down creators who don’t realize we have royalties waiting for them after their content was reproduced. My thanks to everyone who spread the word: you helped make it possible for more people to receive payments.

A shout-out now to teaching professionals: I can’t overemphasize how valuable your efforts are when you report your in-class use of copyrighted content so that royalties can be paid to creators. I realize you’ve got a lot of other things going on. I’d like you to know you’re having a real impact on our home-grown literary sector. Thanks so much!

Last December, Copibec’s Board of Directors approved the 2022-2025 strategic plan that you can view on our website (in French). Focusing on three major themes, the plan has already enabled us to take concrete actions towards better fulfilling our mission as it relates to our partners, rightsholder and personnel. Our team is currently working on an action plan in line with our available resources. There are some exciting challenges ahead!

Here’s what you’ll find in the February issue of our newsletter:

We hope you’ll find it interesting!
