Bibliographic references
Bibliographic references are more than a simple courtesy. They ensure that the rightful author is acknowledged.
Under the Copyright Act, authors have the right to be attributed the authorship of their works. The author’s name therefore has to be shown on the excerpts you reproduce.
All copies distributed to users, kept on file or made available in digital format must contain bibliographic references.
A complete bibliographic reference consists of the following:
- Author’s name
- Title of the work
- Publisher’s name
- Publication place and year
- Page numbers reproduced
Indicating the bibliographic references for the content you use is an essential part of copyright compliance.
