PRESS RELEASE
Montreal, April 10, 2024聽鈥聽Did you know Canada鈥檚 Copyright Act first came into force in 1924?聽Copibec was recently given the green light by Canadian Heritage to develop a podcast series commemorating the 100th anniversary of the coming into force of the Copyright Act. This is a unique opportunity for us to help Canadians learn more about copyright.
Podcasting was chosen as the best media approach because it offers the flexibility and agility to share information in an innovative way. In the podcasts, we鈥檒l hear the voices of writers, visual artists, journalists, publishers, politicians, lawyers and judges. The episodes will make room for all the players who鈥檝e been involved in making our copyright legislation what it is today.
Digital strategist Denis Martel will be in charge of producing the podcasts in both official languages. With the future of copyright now at a crucial crossroads, the series will take a look into the past so we can better understand the present and be better prepared for what lies ahead.
Not only will Copibec be promoting the Copyright Act鈥檚 100th anniversary this year, we鈥檒l be gearing up to host the 2024 IFRRO World Congress in September. It will therefore be an important, even decisive, year for everyone in the book industry as well as the entire arts and culture sector.
