It’s when I look at the current state of Canadian politics that this air from les Belles-sœurs never leaves me...
The House of Commons calendar in Ottawa reminds me of a bingo game; not the ode to bingo, but just the same. Haven’t we all been waiting for our number to come off the abacus since the NDP literally and figuratively tore up their agreement with the Trudeau government on September B-4!
So I can hear the caller’s voice:
September I-18, one of the Conservatives’ three days of no-confidence motions;
October N-29 to bring down the government by the Bloc Québécois;
The G-44ᵉ legislature is paralyzed.
Meanwhile, the literary community has been waiting since 2012 for November B-5 to be called and perhaps on that date, the announcement of a budget statement, we can breathe a sigh of relief or surprise if the government holds out until that date and beyond for budget policy....
The Ooooo we’d be disappointed if the House were prorogued, closing the door on LDA reform and by extension any legislative framework for AI.
By the way, I recently won my bet that IFRRO’s General Assembly and World Congress 2024 would be the best edition yet!
Our podcast series reached 20,000 listens!
