Longueuil, October 17, 2024 - Culture Montérégie is delighted to announce a partnership between the Pôle culturel jeunesse de la Montérégie and Copibec for the discoverability of their respective platforms, Catapulte and SAMUEL. The aim of this initiative is to promote the declaration of works used in the classroom by schools, thereby enabling authors and publishers to collect royalties in accordance with the reproduction agreement established with Quebec schools.
A direct impact for creators
Catapulte is an innovative workspace for education professionals, facilitating access to cultural activities for young audiences in the Montérégie region. The combination of these two platforms gives them free access to the SAMUEL catalog, comprising over 45,000 publications, mainly from Quebec and French-speaking Canada. This catalog enables education staff to download and share excerpts from copyrighted works with their students. Each download generates royalties for authors and publishers.
In addition, to ensure accessibility, Catapulte will also make available Copibec's DONA catalog, which includes digital documents specially designed for students with physical, neurological or sensory perceptual disabilities.
Contest unveiled
Launched by Copibec in partnership with Culture Montérégie, the “Un-e auteur-e dans ma classe” contest is aimed at teachers⸱es in Montérégie schools. To participate, education staff will need to create an account on Catapulte and have a SAMUEL account. At the end of the contest, the winning school will be able to host the author of its choice from among those proposed in Catapulte. The aim of the contest is to promote local authors to schools and CSSs in the Montérégie region. Full details on catapulte-culturejeunesse.com.
