A look back at the IFRRO World Congress

A look back at the IFRRO World Congress

Last week, from September 30 to October 3, 2024, the international copyright community gathered in Quebec City for the 40th IFRRO World Congress. Participants were enchanted by the city, aided by magnificent weather and our legendary hospitality. Thanks to near-perfect coordination, orchestrated by our General Manager Christian Laforce and the Copibec team, rumour has it that we experienced a very special moment in the history of this organization.

I’d like to warmly thank Camille Tougas, Nicolas Boudreault, Maryse Beaulieu and Arezki Raab for all their hard work. Each of them, in his or her own field of expertise, contributed to introducing our organization to the 150 participants. We have received a great deal of praise for the clarity and richness of our website, which seems to have aroused a great deal of interest. I would also like to thank all our employees who worked hard to ensure the success of this international event. The presence of two members of the Board of Directors, Patrick Bourbeau and Simon de Jocas, and that of Gilles Herman, was much appreciated by the team members in place. But above all, we owe this collective success to Christian, our project manager, who truly exceeded all expectations. Thank you, dear Director.

Lise Létourneau, President of Copibec

Highlights

Christian Laforce appointed Chairman of the Nomination Committee

The IFRRO Nomination Committee is elected by IFRRO members every three years. It comprises at least four members, one of whom is the Chairman. One member of the committee must also be a member of the Board of Directors. The role of the Committee is to propose candidates for election of the Presidency and other members of the Board of Directors.

Supporting copyright reform efforts

The IFRRO delegation adopts a resolution to support Copibec and Access Copyright in their efforts to reform copyright law in Canada.

A World Congress marked by art and music

The first day of the convention closed with a welcome cocktail at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, followed by an artistic performance by Carl Veilleux and his Roi Boréal. We would also like to thank De Marque for their financial support.

Alexis Vollant presented an excerpt from his new book Nipinapunan in partnership with the Institut canadien de Québec.

The second evening of the congress ended with a performance by pianist Roman Zavada during the gala dinner, in the intimate and historic atmosphere of the Petit Séminaire de Québec.
