MONTREAL, August 26, 2026 — As the new school year gets underway, Copibec is reaching out directly to teaching personnel across Quebec. This new campaign is based on a simple fact: keeping track of the content used in the classroom helps compensate the creators and publishers whose work is so important for learning. Teachers can report their content use online at ireport.copibec.ca.
Every day, teachers reproduce copyrighted content for educational purposes, including book excerpts, newspaper and magazine articles, poems, song lyrics and more. It doesn’t matter whether the content is on paper, digital or displayed onscreen in class, the reporting process enables Copibec to pay royalties to the authors of the material used.
“Teachers play a huge role in how content gets distributed. By tracking their content use, they’re actively recognizing the work done by the creators who enrich their teaching,” explained Christian Laforce, Copibec’s Executive Director. “This campaign is the logical next step in implementing the reproduction rights agreements signed with the Quebec education ministry (MEQ), CEGEPs/colleges and universities.”
The campaign’s tone is positive and encouraging. The visuals show a variety of teachers with a drawing of a cape on their shoulders to illustrate in a light-hearted way that they have real power when it comes to compensating creators.
Posters are being distributed throughout Quebec schools to amplify the campaign’s message.
Copibec is also turning to its ambassadors to help share the campaign’s message across the school system. The ambassadors’ profiles are available on this web page.
It’s fast and easy to report content use. Plus it’s a very effective way to support our culture.
